The Door Christian Bookstore has served the San Francisco Peninsula Christian Community for over twenty-seven years.
Carla Claar opened The Door in San Carlos
on Laurel Street in November 1979. When her husband Ken retired, he
added his efforts to hers. As The Door prospered, the Claars expanded
within their original store until they were bursting at the seams. When
the Claars decided to retire, they began a long search for a suitable
family to continue their work in San Carlos.
In the fall of 1991, the Claars met Woody Willis and
The Door changed hands in February 1992. Woody operated The Door in its
original location for three years, and then rented a larger space a
block south on Laurel Street. Following an extensive renovation of the
new space, The Door opened in its present location in July 1995.
On April 12, 2007 The Door San Carlos was purchased by Mike and Kathy Dunn.
Moving forward, Kathy and I will have much to learn and much to do. We
feel privileged to be given this opportunity to continue the ministry
that Woody has faithfully nurtured all these years. And our hope is
that we will be able to live up to his godly example and his
perseverance.
On Dec 13, 2007 The Door Santa Cruz was Open.
With the departure of Linda's Bible Bookstore to Salinas (under the the
name, "The Carpenter, Mike and Kathy determined to open a store to me
the needs of the Christian Community in Santa Cruz County..
We continue to welcome and serve believers from many churches and
denominations. We strive to provide a variety of books, music, cards,
and gifts that will advance the Kingdom of Christ and nurture His
people.
When you visit The Door, we will make our best effort to help you find
products that will assist you in your desire to grow as a Christian, to
serve those around you, and to reach others with the Good News of Jesus
Christ!
